XLS vs BNL

Pookster

Hi, I have 20 files that were originally opened up in
Excel. CPU crashed...many changes later...I have
installed 'MS Works Suite 2001'. It looks like 'xls'
files, are now 'xml'!?!?!

The 20 files have extensions labeled XLS. All have
the 'piano' icon indicating they are 'BNL' files
(Background noise?). If I try to open them, I get a msg.--
"Cannot find BNL file...toggle 'Absolute Path' in
Preferences dialog box...or locate ...file...update path
in BN_CD.DAT with notepad.

Some of the 20 are in drive C.
2 files are in the BNL folder.
The BNL folder is in 'Win32app' in drive C.
Some are on a CD.

Sometimes, when try to open an XLS file...says "Not a
Win32 application".

1. What is Win 32?
2. Has 'XLS' been changed to 'XML'?
3. How do I open the old XLS files?
4. What do I use to create new (XLS/Spreadsheet) type
files?

Also, I just ran Ad-Aware to clear out 184 bad items.

Please be patient. I'm not really adept at this stuff!
All assistance will be greatly appreciated! Pookster

My condolences. Excel files will not work in Works. You must have excel.
Also, excel files should never be opened from a cd or a floppy. Copy to the
HD and open from there.
