Message: "this installation package is not supported by this processor type.
Contact your product vendor". I'm running AMD Athlon 64 x 2 with a gig of
memory. Beta 1 was (is) great so I'm anxious to try Beta 2.

Did you grab the X64 version of the MSI file from the download center?

Which version of Windows are you running, and can you verify the processor
architecture?

Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
Run the command "echo %PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE%"

Does this return X86 or AMD64?

Also, did you use "Run" or "Save" at the Internet Explorer prompt when you
downloaded the MSI?

Thanks,
Patrick Lang [MSFT]

Hi Patrick,

1. Windows XP Media Edition
2. X86
3. I first saved it to My Downloads and then 'Ran' it (or tried to).
4. Redownloaded file and just Ran it. Neither worked...

Thanks for your interest and for trying to solve this problem.

That is correct.

To use the x64 MSI, you must have installed either Windows XP Professional
X64 edition, or one of the Windows Server 2003 x64 editions. An overview of
the available editions is at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/64bit/x64/overview.mspx

On the download page, one of the requirements says Windows XP, Service Pack
2. That's what I have, and I got the same error when I downloaded it.

What gives??

What's the name of your downloaded file, and how long ago did you download
it?

I'd suggest downloading again--they've made some changes to the download and
the installer, and this process is simpler now.

I downloaded WindowsDefenderX64.msi just this morning, which I realize now is
for the 64-bit versions of windows. But, the system requirements page says
"Windows XP, Service Pack 2" without mentioning that you need the 64-bit
version. Is that a mistake?

Nevermind. I don't know how I got to the 64-bit version, but I found the
regular one. User error.

If you go to that link, then press Continue--what is the filename that
shows?

I see: windowsdefender.msi, and when I then press "download" that's what I
get.
