Workgroup/Domain Co-existence

I have an Ethernet and Wireless home LAN with 2 x XP Home,
1 x XP Professional and 1 x Windows 98 PC connected. The
Windows XP Professional is configured to belong to a
domain for work purposes.

The remaining PCs are configured in a Workgroup and
file/printer sharing work fine. Netbios over TCP is
enabled on all PCs.

Can I get the Domain PC to integrate with my Workgoup PCs
without blowing away the Domain configuration? Tips on how
to achieve this (or a straight "No, it can't be done")
much appreciated.

Just answered my own question.

Rename Workgroup to the same name as the Domain and file
and printer sharing works AOK

OK, thanks Ken.

What I did on my Win 98 home laptop is to create a user
that matches the primary user on my domain based work
laptop. When I log into Windows on my home laptop using
the new username I can map drives and see printers in both
directions.

I guess because this satisfies the credentials thing you
mention below.

It does work. The issue is that you are logging in with your domain
account, so when you connect to another home machine your credentials are
workdomain\username. You need to connect with machinename\username. You
can do this manually (Map Network Drive or net use) or you can store the
credential in Stored User Names and Passwords.

I know that's not very clear, post back if you need more direction.

I have same problem....but my domain is Active Directory,
and it is too many letters to fit in the "workgroup" field.

Microsoft, theres gotta be a simple answer for this. I see
numerous postings in here about this issue.

Yeah, there is ... when you created your AD domain you should also have been
prompted for a shorter "NetBIOS" domain name for clients that cannot handle
long domain names. It is that short name that you will need to use.
