Hi,

I have a laptop (XP Pro) and a Desktop PC (XP Home). The Laptop is wireless
and the Desktop is on cat-5 into a netgear router.

The PC is able to ping the laptop (and transfer shared files from the laptop).
The Laptop is not able to ping the PC or transfer any files.

I have searched high and low for a resolution to this but have not been able
to find an answer.

Browstat info and ipconfig /all for both:

Info from PC:

So the laptop doesn't show any IP, gateway, etc for the wireless it
connects through?

This may be a too obvious question but are there any firewalls on the
PC that would block access from others?

I have tried disabling windows firewall (just to test) to see if this worked
- and it didn't.

The PC doesn't have any other firewall.

The Laptop is running AVG and windows firewall but i don't think this would
be an issue.

Thanks,

At first you should run the Network Setup Wizard to exclude the
"standard misconfiguraton options" on the laptop.

If you have not yet resolved this, you could try the following.

I had been experiencing a similar problem with a desktop PC into a Netgear
Router. I could see all the devices in the workgroup from all the devices on
the network and I could transfer files from the desktop to and from the
other devices, but couldn't access the desktop from the other devices.
Having exhausted all the suggestions I found on the web, I installed the
Cisco Network Magic trial http://www.purenetworks.com/download/ on the
desktop.

The simple expedient of installing the application restored access to the
desktop shares. I have now uninstalled the trial and the desktop remains
accessible. Whatever the problem was, installing the application fixed it.
It can't hurt to try it.
