Word, Wordpad & Notepad

I have 3 printers attached to my machines..
2 laser that are networked to the computers..
1 HP DeskJet 1120C (Ink Jet)

Anyway the HP has just decided it won't print from Word/ Notepad or Wordpad
... It transports the correct amount of paper but the pages are always blank..
But it will print the content of emails in Outlook Express and I just used
PAINT and it printed beautifully...
The Word/Wordpad & Notepad documents print okay on the laser printers .

I have uninstalled/reinstalled the printer via the control panel, too many
times.. Tried updating drive but XP insists it is fine...

Just tried the "PaperPort color image", for the first time and it printed
the pages just fine.. Beautiful color...

So.. I know the printer is fully operational..

Now the catch...

One, it is and older printer with a printer port .. I have it connected to
this machine with a Parallel to USB cable..
Windows XP always finds the printer and necessary driver(s) without any
intevention on my part..
HP built this printer for Windows 98 and refused to write a drive for XP...
Even though this printer was only 1 year old when XP came out... That's the
reason I will never buy another thing from HP....

Anyway there is no install disk that will work with XP... So I rely on the
default driver(s) built into XP..
Printer has worked fine but some of the fancy bells & whistles won't work
with XP...

Just ran SCANNOW /SFC .... No help..

So. I'm looking for ideas..

I have the printer set to DEFAULT but that makes no difference..

Hi, ro, I would suggest to install a newer HP-printer and make it the
default printer.
Go to Start > Printers & Faxes > choose install printer and find under
Hewlett Packard the deskjet 990 and make it default.
Worked for me with an older HP.
Hope it works.

Try downloading and installing a driver for another (later model that has an
XP driver available) model from HP's web site.
It might take two or three tries but eventually you will find a driver model
that works.

You were saying there is no XP driver for your printer (HP Deskjet 1120c
Printer series).

You might be right, however they do have the driver for Vista, (so they
obviously think this printer isn't too old). If you ever upgrade to Vista
(!?), you can be pretty sure you could get a vista driver for that printer.

HP seem to have 'skipped a generation' as far as XP driver was concerned
(but the actual printer's bundled software application (photo editing or
such) is there for XP); the driver for Windows 2000 is available for
download, this is probably the closest to a XP driver you'll get, and I
think generally, Win2000 drivers work with XP. although the driver is dated
August 2000, so it's not that recent.

Driver switching might be valid, but this printer has worked sucessfully with
XP since time began...
It also presently works with other programs, so simple me has troulbe seeing
the driver as the problem...
More inclined to think 'Registry" might have a broken link..

Perhaps the black ink is empty, and the other apps are using the color
cartridge to make black.

In that case, perhaps go to the Print Server Properties, and in the
Driver tab, do a replace on the HP1120C driver back to the one you had.
