In my search for the *perfect* word processor, I have looked at
EasyOffice Suite Freeware - download here-
http://www.e-press.com/downloads/index.html

This is nagware - or as they say on their site, "There is a polite
start-up licensing screen, ..."

However, buried deep within the Suite is a program called
easysimpleword.exe
They describe this as a version of EasyWord optimized for older, slower
CPUs

easysimpleword.exe is not nagware (maybe it will be after they read this)

Easysimpleword.exe can do the following-

(1) insert page numbers
(2) spell check
(3) insert tables

For my purposes, the only feature it lacks is something that Crypt Edit
does - read http or www as hyperlinks that open in my browser.

it appeared that the free version of Tomahawk may be too limited for
some of us to use (in particular, I noticed that import appears to be
restricted). It may be more practical to use Open Office to reincarnate
things like Word docs as .PDFs. Import/export matters a whole lot to me.

My wife is using AbiWord on her old laptop. OS: W98SE
I haven't installed Open Office because of lack of resources.
AbiWord, on the on the other hand, is very light. It requires only a 486dx
processor.

She likes AbiWord because it has what she needs; nothing more, nothing
less.
And it's been stable the year she's been using it.

AbiWord still has some problems with support for complicated MS
Word-documents, though.
But in a light program like this there has to be some compromises.
