MS Office replacement

I may have been asleep when people tend to post about this

Anyone try this yet? I did realize this is a scaled down version of
their "pro" edition and they have frequent updates.

Comments?

Easy Office:

http://www.e-press.com/products/compatibility.html

Microsoft Word compatibility:

* EasyWord can generate *.doc and *.rtf files 100% compatible with
Microsoft Word. * EasyWord can directly read most Microsoft *.doc
and *.rtf files. As well, the Microsoft Word Viewer and Open Source
Word Processor are integrated into EasyWord, and can read just about
all Microsoft 2.0 and higher Word files, if need be. (On the CD-ROM
version these programs are automatically installed. Due to bandwidth
constraints they are not included with the downloadable EasyOffice.)
* Macro support, however, is not provided.
* XML compatibility is expected by the end of 2005.

Microsoft Excel compatibility:

* EasySpreadsheet can generate *.xls files 100% compatible with
Microsoft Excel. * EasySpreadsheet2 has better Microsoft Excel
compatibility, and can read and produce Excel-compatible graphics.
However, EasySpreadsheet2 does not run as fast as EasySpreadsheet,
and does not include the 'easy mode' of EasySpreadsheet. * On the
CD-ROM both EasySpreadsheet and EasySpreadsheet2 are included, but
due to bandwidth constraints, on the downloadable EasyOffice, only
EasySpreadsheet is contained. * EasySpreadsheet can directly read
most Microsoft *.xls files. As well, the Microsoft Excel Viewer and
the Open Source Spreadsheet are integrated into EasySpreadsheet, and
can read just about all Microsoft 2.0 and higher Excel files, if
need be. * Macro support, however, is not provided.

Microsoft PowerPoint compatibility:

* EasyPresentation saves files in HTML/XML, the file standard of the
future. * However, the Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer and the Open
Source Presentation Program are integrated into EasyPresentation,
allowing EasyOffice users to view and print, and usually edit, just
about any PowerPoint file. (On the CD-ROM version the PowerPoint
Viewer is automatically installed. Due to bandwidth constraints it
is not included with the downloadable EasyOffice.) *
EasyPresentation files can be saved along with a copy of the
EasyPresentationViewer, thus allowing any user, even without
EasyOffice, to view the EasyPresentation file.

Microsoft Access compatibility:

* The Microsoft Access Snapshot Viewer is integrated into EasyWord,
allowing users of EasyOffice to view and print Access Snapshot
files. * EasyDatabase Advanced uses MySQL and is capable by
technical users of exchanging files to and from Microsoft Access.

Microsoft Outlook compatibility:

* EasyMail is a powerful e-mail client.
* EasyContactManager can import contacts from Microsoft Outlook and
from Microsoft Outlook Express * EasyContactManager can import
schedules and appointments from Microsoft Outlook * Supports
external virus checkers such as Norton AntiVirus * Strict compliance
with industry RFC standards. Generates Internet e-mail using the
industry-standard SMTP (Simple Mail Transport Protocol) and
retrieves Internet e-mail using the industry-standard POP3 (Post
Office Protocol 3) and IMAP4 (Internet Message Access Protocol)
protocols * Automatic internal backups of e-mails and fail-safe
operation * EasyContactManager can import the task list from
Microsoft Outlook

I just installed OpenOffice.org 641. I have only used the spreadsheet
so far, but I was impressed. I have tried other office suites and been
underwhelmed, but the OpenOffice spreadsheet application even has auto
complete which I've only found in MS Excel until now.

What I find exciting is their newest Beta... It even includes a bona
fide M$Access-like database program!

The whole thing rocks like an earthquake!

I think I need to explain myself a bit. I know of OO.o. I use it on my
sandbox (which now has Ubuntu Linux) but I was wondering if anyone has
tried this. I know (and like very much) Open Office...

The only thing I don't like is the size of the download... ~80MB!

Tried the previous version and it seemed like a decent program.
However, the constant nags outweighed any benefits derived from that
application.

I wasn't all that happy with it. Imagine having a separate desktop icon
for each part of the program. Yuck. Yeah, you could move them to a
single icon, but why bother.
