Won't save Cookies

I use a web site that allows for cookies to be set when configuring the web
page for personal use or the last view of this site. I noticed that the
"Content.IE5" folder was missing out ofthe "Temporary Internet file" for the
Owner/Mydoc's/Local settings folder. Does this folder control how cookies are
stored for IE? I found another Content.IE5 folder under another Temporary
Internet file and tried to relocate it but that didn't work. I tried to add a
new folder labeled Content.IE5 to this file but that wouldn't work either. If
this folder is missing could it be the reult of a virus or worm?

Thanks for your help!

Cookies are stored in a folder named "Cookies". Seeing them in the
Temporary Internet Files is an illusion provided by Windows Explorer. I
don't know what version of Windows you are using, but with WinXP you can't
see the Content.ie5 folder for your User profile unless you login as a
different user.

This issue is with WinXP and what your telling me now makes sense. What could
be causing my problem with storing cookies to configure a particular website?
In this case I use the CHP's website www.chp.ca.gov traffic incident page for
tracking accidents. This page can be configred to particular areas of the
state and will remain that way untill the temporary internet files are
deleted. I particular, the Content.IE5 folder will have created and stored
some sub directories that will have special labels (i.e. wx8v15sa, wx55saa,
etc). In these sub directories will be cookies that configure this website.
This issue also seems to affect the storing of typed urls. Everything will
work fine untill the browser is closed. When I reopen the browser and go to
the CHP website the page displays the default page and any typed urls are
gone. I have two other computers that run ME and 98 I can use this site
without any problems. This website doesn't use popup windows so I don't think
that SP2 is causing the issue.

Thanks again,
Dale Greep

Added info: this problems occurs even while IE is running. I tried to go back
to CHP site only to find the default page displayed.

Have you checked the settings in Tools | Internet Options | Privacy?
Deleting the Temporary Internet Files or Content.IE5 will not affect
cookies.
