Won't print

I cannot get my printer to work from Word or notepad. The printer can: scan
a document from the computer to the printer; 2) print a test page from the
printer’s menu. However, if I go to Word, select print, then select printer
services, it will not print a test page.

I have downloaded a driver; no avail. I have used HP trouble shooter, no
positive results.

Also, if I go to word, select print and then select printer, I get the
error message: "the directory services is currently unavailable"

Remove the printer from Settings, Printer and Faxes on the start menu,
reboot and install the software again and see if that helps. As a matter of
interest, did you download the diagnostic program that was recommended by
the HP employee?

I had a very similar problem with my HP LaserJet printer.
Called HP, and they went through cleaning up the registry.
Re-loaded the driver from CD, now everything works. As the
Techi was going through the remote mode, I saw what he did.
He opened up the Registry, by clicking the Start button, then
typing ‘RegEdit’, then ‘Find’ the name of the printer,
i.e.,’HP LaserJet’. Deleted all instances, then closed
the registry, then asked me to load the HP CD, to load the
printer software. Everything works OK now.
(Charged me for one hour of time, although it took him just
few minutes to do the job).
