Won't Hiberate or Stand by

Since a few Windows updates ago, my system will no longer Hibernate or go
into Stand By. Why would that be and how can I go about investigating how to
fix it? I used to love hibernate -- my desktop would be right where I left
it!

Hi Umma!

If no-one here gives you a better answer and I'll be the first to admit to
not being an expert.....

What system do you have? Is it a laptop by any chance? I ask this as the
same thing happened to me.

Try setting up an new user with admin privileges. Log out your normal user
name and log into the new user and see if you can once again use standby and
hibernate. I suspect that it will work.

If this is the case (and again if all else fails), you could copy all your
files (eg My Documents etc) over to the new user name.

Not perhaps the best solution but maybe worth a try?

Best wishes,

Jim

Thanks, Jim. I'll give it a try. It's a 2.2Ghz Celeron HP Pavilion with
..5GIG of RAM and a 80GIG HDD. It's running Windows XP Home SP2.
