WMP 10 -- can it edit a CD list?

Can Windows Media Player 10 edit a CD music list? I bought a CD of songs by
The New Christy Minstrels and some of the song titles do not match their
songs -- is there a way make WMP list the right names for the songs?

Yes, WMP has the capability to edit song titles. However, the approach you
are trying will try to rewrite the names on the CD itself which is not
possible as the CD would be in read only mode ( manufacturer would have
closed the CD for any write operations). You can copy the songs to the local
hard drive, change the titles and a make a new copy (for your use only).

Jonybrv --

It seems that a while back I got an earlier version of WMP to change the
song listing of a purchased CD, but I can't remember how I did it!!! Or
maybe v. 10 won't do what an earlier version could do.

Launch WMP, click on Library, right-click on a song title
and choose Edit.

This is not correct in most cases! When you put in a CD and WMP plays it,
WMP goes to the internet and gets the info from a database.

Yeah -- that's the quickest -- of course you need to first select "Now
Playing" in the left hand column.

Thanks again --

Yep -- it worked for me, but I'm enamored over the instructions which say:
1.Click Library.
2.In the Contents pane, expand the category that contains the album or
artist you want to update.
3.Right-click the item, and then click Find Album Info.

I mean my Dad, for instance, would have a time with that because there is
nothing titled "contents pane" -- I think it should say:
1. Click Library.
2. In the left hand column titled, Now Playing, select the item that
contains the album or artist you want to update.
3. Right-click the item, and then click Find Album Info.

:)

Well, actually, the column heading changes according to what is selected in
the column -- so maybe the column itself should have a static name like
"Contents Pane"

By now, all these comments are probably a pain ;)

Please correct me if I am wrong. It is my understanding that purchased music
cds do not have the name of the songs encoded on the cd. There is a
reference number that is used by WMP to download the titles from a web site.
They may be wrong at that location. You can edit the WMP playlist by just
clicking on a field and typing but you must be sure to turn on the option to
only update missing info from the internet or it may be changed back.
