problems playing videos

it's been four days since I posted this question in the Media Player
newsgroup, but I'm not getting any responses. I thought I would post it here
to see if anybody can help me. I'm getting very frustrated at the lack of
response I am getting on this question. I had the impression that "experts"
are reading these questions and answering them, but I am not even getting a
response! I will keep posting this in several areas until I get an answer.
thanks

I am having a several problems with WMP 10 on Media Center 2005.
1. When I try to play several songs in a playlist, only the first song will
play. After the first song finishes, it will appear that the second song
starts, but there is no audio.
2. While trying to view the video settings, I can only see the settings for
Hue and Brightness. The Saturation and Contrast settings cannot be seen.
3. While viewing some video clips, if I try to make the video brighter, the
bottom half of the video will become a very light yellow color.
I have tried to uninstall WMP 10, but it won't uninstall. Any ideas on what
I can do to solve this problem? Is there a way to uninstall WMP 10?
Thanks,
Bob

We are all just sitting here and waiting for someone to ask question. Should
you ask and nobody answers with in 3 days, then maybe you should file a
complain with Microsoft, they own this FREE board. While you are at it, ask
them to raise our salary from $0 to at least $1 per day for MVP's and $.25
for all other users here.

By the way, how many questions did you answer today?

Great answer Pavel. I was appalled when I saw that question / comment /
insult posed by bobman. I find these newsgroups very helpful, (extremely
helpful actually) and cannot conceive that someone has the concept that
someone "owes" them answers to their questions.!!! I generally find my
answers here, sometimes more than one answer, and am grateful for it.

I'm not sure who you think you're addressing, or what answers you
think you're entitled to, but just in case you're confused, let
me make it very clear: this isn't Microsoft you're addressing,
and nobody is entitled to any answers at all.

This is a peer support newsgroup. We are all just Windows XP
users here, helping each other if and when we can. We are not
Microsoft employees (not even those of us with "Microsoft MVP"
behind our names; that's an honorary title for having provided
consistently helpful advice) except for an occasional employee
who posts here unofficially on his own time.

If you don't get an answer, it can be for a variety of reasons:
you may have asked your question poorly and nobody understood,
nobody may know the answer, the person who knows the answer may
have missed your question. In general you never get any response
*unless* it's an answer; nobody bothers to respond telling you "I
don't know the answer."

If you've waited four days and have gotten no answer, there's
nothing wrong with trying again, but if you do it as
belligerently as you did above, you're not going to win any
friends, and may in fact cause someone who knows the answer *not*
to respond.

And finally, please do *not* send the same message separately to
more than one newsgroup (called "multiposting"). Doing so just
fragments the thread, so someone who answers in one newsgroup
doesn't get to see answers from others in another newsgroup.

If you must send the same message to more than one newsgroup,
please do so by crossposting (but only to a *few* related
newsgroups).

thanks for posting a professional response, Ken. I would appreciate an
explanation of the difference between "multiposting" and "crossposting", so
maybe I can get my question to the right people. The reason I have posted my
question in here is I was NOT even getting one response when I posted it in
the WMP group, and that was first done several days ago. I was not doing it
belligerently, I was just copying and pasting the same text without any other
comments. I agree that in most cases, I do get the help I need in these
newsgroups, but this current situation has me stumped, and nobody seems to
know even a starting point I can go with. The only answer I've been given,
in a different posting, was that uninstalling WMP and resinstalling it would
not do me any good. That's all he posted. That's like taking my car to a
mechanic and having him tell me the reason my car doesn't run is because
something's wrong with it, and then he gives me my keys back and tells me to
have a nice day.
I certainly didn't mean to cause any problems, but when I see dozens of
posts that were put up after mine, and they have several responses, and mine
just sits there for days without any response, hopefully you can understand
why I am frustrated. At least you took time to give me a respectful
response, which is more than I can say for the two comments I got from Pavel
and Happy. Thanks for answering and anything u can give me to steer me in
the right direction would be appreciated.

Bobman,

You seem to think that you deserve a professional answer from here even that
you now know that this is not a professional board. If you were begging on a
street for money and you came to me and told me: "Hey you, give me money" do
you think I would respond "professionally" with "I'm sorry sir, but I have
left my wallet home but if you wait I will gladly run home and get it"? Or
will I tell you to get lost only because the way you approached me?

You are demanding answer to a question that is missing any details besides
something about Media Player. I know that you are just bitching that nobody
answered you four days ago but if you just maybe dropped the demands in your
second post and included the details of your original question, maybe
someone would make an effort to help you. You have responded to Ken and
still, the only thing you now say is something about WMP (what ever that is)
and re-installing it. NO DETAILS AGAIN.

Do not expect me or anyone else to go and search for your original question
(somebody may do just that). I am not trying to be cruel but I often clean
my Outlook Express and old messages are deleted, even if they are just four
days old.

I like to take back the second half of my answer to you Bobman. I did go
back to your original post today and found the original question there. My
fault for not looking carefully. At least you now know we are reading your
posts.

I do not have the answer to your problem but now I know what you are talking
about. By the way the proper location for your question should be in
"Microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player" area. I have looked there my self and
noticed that WMP 10 does have many problems. It is a fairly new product. Now
you can not say that nobody is helping you.

You're welcome.

I would appreciate
an explanation of the difference between "multiposting" and
"crossposting", so maybe I can get my question to the right
people.

Sure. Crossposting is sending a single message addressed to more
than one newsgroup. Although it irritates some people because
it's a common tool of spammers, there's really nothing wrong with
it, if the newgroups are related and there's not a lot of them.

Multiposting is sending the same message to several newsgroups
multiple times, each as a separate message. The disadvantage of
doing this is that you get a separate thread started in each
newsgroup, and participants in one group don't get to see the
responses someone else made in the others.

So, for example, assuming that you mutipost to groups a and b, if
someone makes an incorrect response in group a, and the person
who knows it's incorrect only particpates in group b, he won't
see the incorrect response and won't have the opportunity to
correct it. It you had crossposted instead, everyone would see
everything.

However I see that you're posting using the web interface. I know
little about it, and don't know how to go about crossposting
with it. The web interface is the slowest, clunkiest, most
error-prone method there is. Do yourself a favor and switch to a
newsreader, such as Outlook Express, which comes with Windows.
See http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/outlookexpressnewreader.htm

The reason I have posted my question in here is I was NOT even
getting one response when I posted it in the WMP group, and
that was
first done several days ago. I was not doing it belligerently,

No, I didn't say your original question was belligerent--I didn't
even see it. But your complaint that I replied to about not
getting any responses sure felt belligerent to me.

I was
just copying and pasting the same text without any other
comments. I
agree that in most cases, I do get the help I need in these
newsgroups, but this current situation has me stumped, and
nobody
seems to know even a starting point I can go with.

That sometimes happens. None of us knows everything, and there's
never a guarantee of an answer here, let alone a correct answer.

The only answer
I've been given, in a different posting, was that uninstalling
WMP
and resinstalling it would not do me any good. That's all he
posted.
That's like taking my car to a mechanic and having him tell me
the
reason my car doesn't run is because something's wrong with it,
and
then he gives me my keys back and tells me to have a nice day.

You need to understand that *anybody* can answer a question here.
There's an enormous range in the quality of the answers people
get. Sometimes the person who answers is an expert and provides
accurate helpful information. Sometimes the person who answers is
a beginner, and doesn't have the faintest idea what he's talking
about. Sometime the person who answers is a foul-mouthed teenager
who just wants to give you a hard time.

It's very common when you ask a question to get some responses
that are either so poorly written that you can't understand them,
or just flat-out wrong. Learning to tell the difference between
the good responses and the poor ones is a skill that newsgroup
particpipants need to acquire.

One of the things I think anybody needs to do to use any
technical newsgroup effectively is to hang around for a while and
just read messages, not necessarily ask or answer questions. In a
relatively short time, you start to get an understanding of who
the helpful knowledgeable people are (they are not just the
MVPs), and who are the wannabees. Once you've done that, you're
in a much better position to evaluate the responses and make
effective use of answers to your questions.

I certainly didn't mean to cause any problems, but when I see
dozens
of posts that were put up after mine, and they have several
responses, and mine just sits there for days without any
response,
hopefully you can understand why I am frustrated.

Of course. I understand your frustrations. But realize that none
of us knows everything and nobody can help with every problem.
I'm one of those people who have responded to some of those
dozens of other problems, but I didn't answer yours because I
know very little about Windows Media Player, and couldn't help.

At least you took
time to give me a respectful response, which is more than I can
say
for the two comments I got from Pavel and Happy. Thanks for
answering and anything u can give me to steer me in the right
direction would be appreciated.

I'd be happy to steer you in the right direction if I could, but
as I said, I know nothing about your problem. The one piece of
advice I tried to give you in my previous message, I'll repeat:
be polite to those people you're asking for help, and remember
that nobody here owes you an answer.

Pavel,
No hard feelings about our comments, ok? I'm glad you went back and read my
original post of this question. By the way, I mentioned in the original post
that I have posted this question in the windows media player area and never
got any responses. That was why I came to this area and posted it here. I
was hoping somebody would pick it up and at least give me some info, which
Ken Blake did.
Thanks,
Bob
