how to assign default video program?

Beyond X

It used to be Windows Media Player(WMP) that automatically implemented
video when a video file is clicked. Now, after a new application was
installed which includes a video-playing feature, it has taken over the
default status. I want to re-assign WMP as default. Where is the file
(perhaps an .ini file or perhaps a registry item) that designate default
programs? Thanks for help.

Thanks for reply.
But all formats have been checked in File Types in WMP and, as I stated,
WMP used to be default video program until a new application (actually
it was Nero 8) was installed.
I asked how to switch back default player from Nero to WMP.

Goto Tools, Options in WMP and select the file formats you want to be
played by WMP.

Did you try what I suggested ?

There is no such thing as a default video player. The problem is that
all videoplayers try to claim the file associations for themselve.
That's your problem. Reverting that is normally done by the way I
suggested, with all video players, by their Tools menu.
If WMP should be an exception then reinstall it.
