Wireless versus Wired Mouse

I use to have a wired Microsoft mouse but when it became worn I
decided to upgrade to a Logitech laser wireless Mouse. At first it was
fine but in recent months it has performed erratically. I have tried
changing the settings, restoring it to the default settings and
recently updated the drivers but it still acts the same and isn't as
smooth as it use to be or as smooth as my wired mouse was. So I'm just
wondering is this an inherent problem with wireless mouse's (mice) and
would I be better off going back to using a Microsoft wired mouse ?

Thanks,

Robert

Presumably it's an optical mouse.
Have you tried a new mouse mat designed for optical mice?
Mike.

Take the mouse out of range of the receiver. Get a small cloth and
some non-residue cleaner. On the bottom of the mouse you'll see
4-6 small riser pads. Clean each of these. Dirt and "Gunk" can make
the mouse movement hesitant. Another suggestion is to get small
Teflon pads to cover the factory pads ( Needs to be changed after
the edges fray, about twice a year ).

Make sure the mouse is setting on a smooth surface, personally I
recommend a WoWpad mouse pad for Optical mice. You can get
an extra large pad at Office Depot for ~$10.

I use a deskpad that has a sheet of blotter paper under the top
clear flap. Allows me full movement of the mouse without any type
of mouse pad that tends to scoot around as you mouse.

Check the batteries in the mouse and reposition the antennae. (The part that
plugs into a USB port).

Also make sure the receiver is not near the Monitor. That screws up
the signal.

Any idea where to get these teflon pads?

Last time I purchased them was from Newegg, was around ~$8.00
for 4-5 sheets. On my Logitech MX Revolution the pads are more
oval in shape so I use a razor blade and cut the round pads into half
moon sizes so they don't stick over the sides of the mouse.

I just checked their site and found a different package that has oval
shapes ( and cost less ). They are actually called MouseSkates.

Have you uninstalled the mouse software and reinstalled? I have had to do
that a couple of times.

One of the advantages of optical mice is that they don't need a mat
except in very rare cases (like when using on a clear glass desk top).

Yes it's optical (sorry) and yes I have a new mat for it which solved
some of the problem but I find that I'm having to click more than
once, it opens folders that I don't want it to and when I click to
close an application it closes the entire window and I have to re-open
it and the pinter kind of 'hovers'. Its getting a bit frustrating.

I had to unistall the software to recieve the updates from Logotech,
the old software that came with the mouse is no longer valid and it
won't accept it.

Many thanks guys, I will try your suggestions.

A quick test is to take a piece of plain white paper and use this for
a temporary mat. If the mouse responds better, you need a mat.

I've tried some of the suggestions but the mouse still seems to act
erractically. For example; when I click to open my Word document it
opens up 2 or 3, every time, and when I open folders it opens and
closes them so fast that I have to repeatedly click on it to open it.
When I click on a link and then attempt to close it it not only closes
the link but the original page I clicked from so that I have to re-
open it. This is getting very frustrating and hard on my wrists
because of the repeated motions.
Any suggestions?

Robert
