Mouse not working in safe mode

I had the need to boot into safe mode and observed that my wireless Logitech
mouse wasn't working.

I suspect that the basic mouse driver XP installs upon (safe) boot is a
generic (i.e. for wired mouses (mice?, meece?).

Anyway, short of connecting a wired mouse prior to booting into safe mode,
is there any way for XP to install the mouse driver for a wireless mouse?

Thanks in advance.

No, there isn't. Safe mode means just that. Only the very
necessary generic device drivers are loaded. Device drivers for
special hardware are not loaded. That includes your wireless rodent.

In Safe mode you are relying on basic BIOS access, and the mouse is
probably connecting via USB. See if the BIOS setup provides for 'Legacy
USB' support
