wireless tab for ms laser mouse 5000 not working xp sp3 latest upd

the tab always shows the batteries as good and signal stregth as strong no
matter what i do such as removing bateries unpluging receiver or moving mouse
out of range. have reinstalled all software (intellipoint 6.1) drivers for
mouse, usb controllers (intel) and hid devices. the mouse itself works fine
except when the batteries run low and i get no notification. have also
tried uninstalling some non critical software

I would try the latest available Intellipoint (6.3??) drivers.
