MS wireless mouse no syncing

I have a MS Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 that suddenly ceased
working. There seems to be communication between the mouse and Windows,
as it will give me the battery state. The mouse however, will not move
the pointer. I removed the drivers/software and loaded the newest
Intellimouse software. I have tried the Troubleshooting guide with no
luck. I have tried different USB ports. Tried rolling back drivers.
Regular optical mouse (wired) works fine. Any ideas?

You've probably tried this, but have you synchronised your mouse with the
receiver?
Press the button on the receiver then press the button on the base of the
mouse.
