Laser Notebook Mouse 6000 & Dell Latitude issue

I have been unable to get the mouse to work in a Dell Latiude D620 notebook.
I'm using the latest Intellipoint 6.2 software. I load the software with no
problems, but when I install the wireless receiver into a USB port I get the
Found new Hardware wizard screen that pops up. Looking for software for the
"Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 1.00". At this point I have tried both
automatically and manual options, to install the software with no luck,
unable to find the software is the result. The instruction manual doesn't
mention that the hardware wizard screen will pop up. I have tried changing
the channel, swapped out the battery, resync both receiver and mouse with no
luck. Has anyone else seen this issue? Also, should there be a red led
shining out the bottom of the mouse?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I performed some addtional troubleshooting, what I see in the the device
manager is that the laser mouse is showing up under "other devices", and the
drivers can't be loaded. I have removed the Alps thouchpad drivers which is
located under mice and pointing devices of the device manager and loaded the
default ps/2 mouse drivers and then tried to reload the software for the
wireless mouse, this failed as before. Next I tried installing the mouse and
software onto my IBM notebook, this worked as advertised. I think the problem
lies with the either the Dell notebook, or the device manager just isn't
working correctly, when looking at the device manager in the IBM machine the
wireless mouse is installed under mice or pointing devices along side the
IBM"s thouchpad software. I'm using the latest drivers from Dell and
Microsoft.
