Wireless Problem

I have a client with a Dell 2350 with XP Sp2 and IE7. It works fine with
Ethernet hard wired. We installed a Dlink 802.22g USB adapter and it sees
the SSID but will not connect. I Uninstalled the Dlink Adapter and
installed a Zoom 802.11g USB adapter and get the same no connection can be
established message. A laptop connects fine. I tried it with Wep enabled and
disabled, firewall on and off. I ran Winfix to rebuild the network to no
avail. I uninstalled IE7 and it made no difference. Remember a laptop
connects fine. The adapter was 12" from the router and shows an excellent
signal.

I understand. I have been setting up wireless since the 1st 802.11 stuff
came out. Probably 1000 setup at least. I mentioned the WEP thing just as
info. The settings match. Whether I use the Windows wireless software or
the software with the adapter the SSID is seen but even when I set a profile
it shows no connection. I have tried matching the signal using b or g only
and mixed with no change. That is why I tried 2 different NICS. I am
wondering if the USB ports (1.1) may be out of spec or weak.

I have been installing USB g adapters on Desktops with USB 1.1 for years.
With 1.1 you obviously do not get 54mbs, but they always have worked fine.
In this case they see the signal but just do not connect.
