Wireless lazer mouse problems (Model 5000)

I just had purchased a MS lazer mouse 5000. It works well except it does let
the screen savers to start or the system to go unto stand by by itself. I
have the 5.5 software installed. If I use my old wired mouse no problems at
all, everything works as needed. Any one have any ideas???
