Winxp media center slow to bring up desktop

Using the Windows XP Media Center. Hp m370n. One user. From when I get the
Welcome screen to when the desk top loads is over 60 seconds and then
Nortons does a scan. It seems to go faster if I use the login screen but
then we have to hit enter. I would like to speed up the process usin the
Welcome screen.
Any ideas?
