I installed WinXP over Win2KPro. In Win2KPro, I could not
play DVDs w/o hanging or blue screening. I could use the
DVD drive to read/write CDs, but as long as I didn't try
to play DVDs all was well.

Now, in WinXP, the system hangs after about 5-15 minutes
of use, no matter what I'm doing (e.g. reading email and
browsing the web). I do not blue screen so I have no
useful information. Can anyone advise me on how to isolate
this problem?

thx

Hello!
Does it hang only when you are connected to internet only? or, all the time?
Check in safe mode
Open control panel >Administrative tools > event viewer -here you look for
application error.
Also:-
delete all the temp.internet files as well as cookies.
Then:-
start > Run > Type sfc\ scannow> ok

.

Format the machine and reinstall the operating system.
Check your processor whether it attached with processor
fan. because of the heat , the processor will be attached
with processor fan (heat will damage the processor)and
cooling fan problem. if this 2 probelms you having then
the machine will hang after running 2 or 3 minutes. check
for virus also. for blue screen only one way is there
reinstall the operating system. try this
