DVD burner not burning

I have a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K15RA drive and up until yesterday it worked fine
but then it started burning coaster DVDs for no apparent reason. It still
reads DVDs and it reads and burns CDs. The only problem is with writing DVDs.
I tried both Nero 6 as well as NTI Cd and DVD Maker 7. I was wondering if
this was a software or hardware problem and if it can be fixed? Pease advise

One handy maintenance item is a Laser Lens cleaning disk.
Usually available at Office supply stores for ~$10. I'm not
saying it's a dirty lens but that is one possibility to eliminate.
However, if multiple burning apps have issues this would
more likely be a hardware issue, than software related. All
Optical burners usually have Firmware Flash updates from
the vendor web site. I'd check and see if your model has a
more recent flash code and read the change log to see what
issues the new flash addresses.
