WINS Database

Roger Nelson

I have moved and updated my Windows NT4 WINS database to
a Windows 2000 Server. I now have 1 domain running
Windows 2000 WINS and 2 Domains running Windows NT4
WINS. All three Domains are connected via WAN. When I
run WINS Manager from a Windows NT4 WINS Server and do
a "Mappings-Show Database" on the Windows 2000 WINS
database I receive an error message stating that "Access
is Denied". If I do a "Show Database" on the local
Windows NT4 database I can see the Windows 2000 WINS
owner and its database. I'm afraid the Windows NT4 and
2000 WINS databases are not updating properly. How can I
view the W2K WINS database from a WNT4 WINS server? How
can I verify that the three WINS servers are updating
correctly?

Hi Roger,
The event logs will tell you if you are having Replication issues. By
default it doesn't tell you when there is a successful replication unless
you Select "Log Detialed events" on the properties of the server in WINS
manager.

I would also suggest installing the AdminPak.msi(Found in the system32
directory on the 2000 system) on the NT systems and use the 2000 Wins
managers as it is a much better console to use.

Thank you,
