Can anybody help od advise me with this. I downloaded some windows updates
on my PC and at home and was prompted to restart the PC. When I did this I
could still sign in on to my desktop but it brought up a message box with the
following error "The procedure entry point SHCreate ThreadRef could not be
located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPl.dlll. When i go on to the
desktop I don`t have any of my program or internet icons come up. The only
thing that I can do is ctrl alt delete and bring up the Windows Task manager.
Is there any solution that I can do myself or do I need to take it to get it
repaired. Any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Joanne, this is what I found doing a quick google:

There seems to be 3 answers -
1. uninstall sp2
2. you have a virus which corrupted sp2, so uninstall and reinstall
3. your version of sp2 is corrupt, so uninstall sp2 and reinstall from a
different source.

Hope it helps. If you can get into control panel, I belive you'll be
able to un-install SP2 from there. I have stayed away from SP2
and most of Micro Softs updates, for reasons like yours.
