Windows XP won't talk to Windows 2000 through router.
Here's the issue: I can't get my home machines to talk to each other.
I used to be able to see the "SharedDocs" folder on my wife's system,
but no longer. I've tried several things, but I've run out of ideas.
Here's the basic configuration:
My machine:
Windows 2000 aka Windows 5.0.2195
Her machine:
Windows XP Home Ver. 2002 SP2
Router:
Netgear RP614v2 with latest firmware (v5.20)
The SharedDocs folder appears to be shared properly, and XP doesn't
report any errors on startup. I can see her machine from my Network
Neighborhood, but when I try to get to the SharedDocs folder, I get
"\\HerMachine is not accessible.
The network path was not found."
This used to simply open the SharedDocs folder, and I could copy to
and from it as appropriate. As far as I know, I haven't modified
anything on my (Windows 2000) system that would affect this, but I
don't know what my wife's installed on her (Windows XP) system that
would cause the connection to break. She can still get out through the
router (i.e. Internet) appropriately, but they're not now talking to
each other.
Any ideas on what I should check between the two machines before I
kick the cat?
