Can't share files

I have two home computers that connect to a wired router via ethernet cable.
The router connects to a cable modem and then to the internet. Both machines
run Windows XP Pro SP2. Both have printers which can be accessed by the
other machine. Neither can access shared files on the other machine. Both
machines can ping the other. Both can access the internet. The only firewall
I have running is from Windows XP Pro and both are configured to allow file
and printer sharing. Both computers and both SharedDocs folders show up in
my network places on both machines, but when I click on the other machines
SharedDocs folder, the folder is not accessible and I am told that I may not
have permission to use this network resource. I am a system administrator on
both machines. Each machine will happily open its own SharedDocs folder from
my network places. I am convinced that this is not a hardware problem, but
I'm just not clever enough to solve the software problem that keeps each
machine from accessing the SharedDocs folder on the other machine. Thanks
for your help.

Start with my complete article, if you like to solve it yourself.

Or provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer, and we'll
work with you. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions
precisely:

Please let us know if any of these suggestions are of any help. What you learn
may help others in the future, and that's the purpose of these forums.

If you are able to ping both the mahcine from each other then it can not be
network problem.

Try un-installing "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft network" and
"Clienr for Microsoft Network" from network connection properties. Reboot
the machine and install them back.
