Windows XP Startup

I

itzphil

I turn on the computer and I get taken to a black screen with white writting
that apologizes for the failure of windows xp to start and gives me options
on which mode to start from ranging from safe mode to start normal.

However no matter which option i choose it does not kick in but just goes
back to the same screen.

Whats up and how can i fix it?

You probably have some corrupt system files, or it could be that your hard
drive is on its way out.

First try a system restore:
-boot off your windows xp cd
-choose recover at the first screen, this will take you to the recovery
console.
-in the recovery console, run chkdsk /R and let it run
-once it has finished, type exit in the console and let the machine reboot
-if your system starts up and lets you log in, please perform a disk clean
up and defrag
-if your system does not start up, boot off your windows cd again
-instead of pressing "R" at the first screen, press enter to continue
-read through the EULA and accept it by pressing "F8"
-now press "R" to run the system restore.
-this will remove the system files and start copying them all over again and
basically run a windows setup
-none of your data will be lost in this process as you are not formatting
the hard drive.

If the system restore does not work, I would suggest finding a tool to check
the integrity of your hard drive. If any bad sectors are found, replace the
HDD.

Rudy,

How will he be able to doo that If he can't even log on? It keeps taking him
back to the advanced start up screen. Windows does not load.
