windows XP start up problems

Whenever I turn on my computer this error message comes up it says "Error LP5
report to author", also there is this thing that asks me do i want to restore
my active desktop, then all of my icons disappear and it takes forever for
this thing to get up and started like waiting on an "Old Man to get off of
the couch"!Everything is real slow and i don't know why!Can you help me with
this problem?I have a new internet and antivirus protection!Is this to do
with something else?Can you help me with this>????

Open event viewer & see whats going on with the OS.Also,go to run,type:
Msconfig Select start-up services tab,see what starts in xp,disable if its
not wanted,otherwise,click "cancel" to exit Msconfig.

What are your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements? What firewall?

Have you recently tried and failed to update software recently?
