"Windows XP RTM support on Winodows Update is ending."

"Windows XP RTM support on Winodows Update is ending."

What is RTM?

RTM is short for Release To Manufacturing. This is the original release of
Windows XP with no service packs applied. You can see
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=gp/lifean9 for a few more details on
this. This is due to MS's policy on support and service packs. Once a
service pack is released, MS will support the previous SP (or in this case
RTM as there is no SP before SP1) for 12 months after the release of the
SP. They may extend that to 24 months of they feel it is the customer's
best interest. SP1 for Windows XP was released at the end of August in
2002. We are now passed the 24 month period of time for support to end on
the previous (RTM) version.
