I see on the windowsupdate> catalog an entry that says
WINDOWS HOME EDITION RTM

what does RTM mean???

Hi,

RTM=Release To Manufacturer. This is the original pre-SP1 version of
WindowsXP that was sent to system manufacturers in Sept 2001.

RTM is 'Release To Manufacturing'. That's the term used to describe the
product (in this case, XP Home) when it was finalized and sent off to be
mass produced. So, when XP first came out, it was the RTM version. Then
there was XP SP1, which came afterwards, and so on.

RTM is also referred to as the 'gold' build occasionally.
