windows XP resets internet options automatically

hi all,
i have a windows xp laptop that i have configured to use a proxy
server for internet connection (i have unchecked the other 2 options),
but every time i attempt to connect, i get a server error and on
checking the internet options, i find that it has reset itself to
'automatically detect settings'.
Any body with an idea? please help.

A couple of things.....
1. Could you post back with the error that you get
2. Are you on a network?...The settings be coming from the network (ie.
Group Policy)?
3. If you change the IE settings to what you want them to be, close IE, and
then open IE again....are the settings still the way you want them?
