Windows XP Problem w/ Lexmark x6170 All In One and hpPavilion zd71

-- I am using an HP Pavilion zd7140us with windows XP. Internet access is by
cable broadband through a Belkin wireless router. My problem began when I
installed a Lexmark 6170 All-In-One and became unable to access the internet
with that computer, by broadband, router, or dialup. I have other computers
in the house (none of which are networked to each other) all of which are the
same make and model of notebook which continue to access the internet with no
problem. Indicators are that the WLAN is reaching the computer just fine, no
problems at all, but Port Magic won’t connect to it. I contacted Lexmark and
(of course) they said it was a broadband problem and didn’t want to hear
about it. This is not true since my other computers are able to access the
internet just fine. The broadband server tech support person (Roadrunner,
btw, very patient and helpful) had me hook my computer directly to the
broadband connection and that did no good either. Server tech support spent
90 minutes with me attempting multiple corrective measures including system
restore, uninstalling the Lexmark software, system configuration through DOS,
system repair through Windows, etc. Nothing worked. They ultimately
concluded that the software installation must have futzed something in
Windows XP up badly and said I might have to use the factory-supplied
recovery disc. I really don’t want to do that if I want to do that. I’m
likening the situation to that of two guys in a dark auditorium who want to
shake hands but can’t find each other. Any suggestions, please?
