XP/Microsoft Broadband Networking Question Regarding Error Message

I inherited an older computer with XP already on it. I then downloaded my
mircosoft wireless onto it and am now getting the following error when I
connect to the internet.

“ Issue Description:

Microsoft Broadband Networking has a known compatibility issue with this
version of Windows. For an update that is compatible with this version of
Windows, contact Microsoft Broadband Networking.
Contact Information:

Microsoft Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/broadbandnetworking
Telephone: (425) 635-7172 (U.S.) or (905) 568-3503 (Canada)â€

But the link to help/a contact doesn’t work. What might I do to fix this?

Also when I connect to the internet, using ie or firefox, website content is
extremely large which means that one must scroll right to view the right half
of the sites although the formatting, the text size etc, is normal/similar to
that of my other computer. How might I fix this? Are they the same error?

I didn't know Microsoft fiddled with stuff like this. Interesting. What
were they thinking ? (I take it Microsoft has "shoveled dirt" on this
piece of hardware, which is why their web pages were removed for support.
It doesn't cost anything to leave a web page behind.)

The link you reference above, can be found here. web.archive.org is a server
that archives (takes snapshots of) other web sites. This is the most
recent copy of the Microsoft web page. (Note that not all the links
on an archive page will work. I copy the link, and then edit the link
in notepad. The original link is the second half of a web.archive.org
web page link, and you can split off the junk at the front, if you
want to go to the original server.) But you can click this one, to
get started.

The "broadbandnetworking" page - please be patient, as this server is busy! :

My first guess would be, that whatever installer you are using, is not meshing
with the WinXP Service Pack level. WinXP could be original, SP1, or SP2. (There'll
be an SP3 some day, but not yet.) It could be that the Wifi device needs a
different or patched driver, to work with whatever Service Pack you are running.

The web page says to check here for downloads. But I didn't find anything.
I tried typing MN-510 here and got nothing.

That Amazon page quotes a model number for the product, and that will be
important to you finding other software for it. For example, a USENET poster
happened to mention the old download page for the MN-510 product. This is the
README file for the 2004 software update. This update claims to support SP2.

And this is what the Microsoft download page should have looked like, if it
was still around.

http://web.archive.org/web/20050102...ardware/broadbandnetworking/10_DLoadMain.mspx

The actual download link was blocked by Microsoft, so the software
download is not archived. (Bummer). But fortunately, if you enter
this link in your browser, the software will download.

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=6790

When you click that link, this is the file they give you (from properties
in Firefox for the download - accessing this directly might not work):

http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/d/5/8d5f3570-e0aa-4ac4-8448-579870373a0f/MSBNDownload.exe

MSBNDownload.exe is 13,723,776 bytes, so will take some time to download.

I hope that file is of some use, but without having your hardware in
hand, I cannot begin to guess whether it'll do any good or not. I'm
not sure you have an MN-510. You would think with things like
Wireless Zero Config, that such large software packages wouldn't be needed.

Some sample references to Wireless Zero Config (a feature of Windows).
Wireless Zero Config does not work with everything, which is why
manufacturer software packages are still required for some devices.

Good luck,
