Could anyone shed some light on a problem i'm having please? I'm runnung xp
pro on my pc,and having problems quite often with microsoft office files
mainly word files. I change the attributes so they're not read only do what
ever work on them that's needed and save them. But when i go back to add more
info to the file again it's changed again to read only. I've made sure the
green marks gone from the read only box, What can i do to stop this from
happening?

Thank you to anybody that takes the time to read this and respond

Windows ignores the read-only attribute of folders.

Read only in NOT set on the folder, that isn't what that box is used
for. It indicates nothing until you CHANGE it and THEN it applies that
setting to the files CONTAINED in the folder, NOT the folder itself.

You are confused. The attributes used for folders do not have the
same meaning as those attributes when used on files.

Ok complete confusion now. Are you saying i need to change the attributes to
the folder? As i've never mentioned folders i'm lost.

Reread your post, or even this one. Look at the Subject header. What
does it say? "Read Only in folders won't stay off".

Since you asked about folders in your Subject but then asked about
files in your message body, I picked one topic which was folders.
Your Subject is supposed to introduce your topic.

Look at the other posts. Other responders also made the same
assumption that you were asking about the read-only attribute on
folders - because that is what you said in your Subject header.

Subject line says folders. Where are you saving these files? The
physical location? Removable media?
