Read Only Won't Stay

I'm using Win XP Pro and I can't get a folder to stay NON
read only. I can uncheck the read only, apply to all
subfolders and files, hit ok. When I go right back into
it, it's read only again. I need it to be not read only
cuz I have 4 other terminals trying to access that folder
and it can't. The 4 others are using XP Home. The folder
is in the program files folder.

This is by design and the read-only bit for a folder is typically ignored by
Windows.

Check out this Knowlegde Base article:

I think perhaps there is another reason the other machines can't access that
folder. Are the other machines trying to access the folder over UNC? If so
make sure you have network access permissions set correctly as well as local
access permissions set correctly (local access permissions only need to be
checked if the file system is NTFS).

I hope this helps,

Read only is an attribute that has no meaning for folders (the
directories are always open for writing), and XP makes an alternative
use of it. You can change it and on Apply it will ask if you want the
change applied to all contained objects, but the display of it for the
folder will revert to greyed
