Windows XP Logo Freeze

Need anyone help with problem I am having with my pc. I got a pc with
Windows XP home edition installed on it. And I had this pc for almost 2
years without a problem.

One day I powered my computer on and it goes thru the system check screen
and then stops and gives me 5 options: safe mode, safe with networking,
safe mode with command prompt and last good configuration or normal startup.
Well, no matter what option i take, it continues like it going to startup,
but when it gets to the Windows XP screen with the moving scroll bar, its
stops. Then I have to turn it off and back on, and it goes thru the same
process, choose one of the options, which I do, and it acts like it going
to start up, but again it stops at the same place, Windows XP with the
scroll bar. No matter what I choose, it doesn't get pass that window. Can
anybody offer any suggestion on what I might do to correct this problem.
Thanks in advance

Assuming your system is set to boot from the CD-ROM drive and you have an
actual XP CD as opposed to a recovery CD, boot with the XP
CD in the drive and perform a repair install as outlined below. If the
system isn't set to boot from the CD or you are not sure, you need to enter
the system's BIOS. When you boot the system, the first screen usually has
instructions that if you wish to enter set press a specific key, when you
see that, do so. Then you will have to navigate to the boot sequence, if
the CD-ROM drive is not first line, set it first in the boot sequence. Save
your settings and exit with the XP CD in the drive. The system will reboot.

NOTE, while a repair install should leave your data files intact, if
something goes wrong during the repair install, you may be forced to start
over and do a clean install of XP. If you don't have your data backed up,
you would lose your data should that eventuality occur.

Boot from the CD. If your system is set to be able to boot from the CD, it
should detect the disk and give a brief message, during the boot up, if you
wish to boot from the CD press any key.

Once you have pressed a key, setup should begin. You will see a reference
asking if you need to load special drivers and another notice that if you
wish to begin the ASR (Automatic Recovery Console) depress F2. Just let
setup run past all of that. It will continue to load files and drivers.

Then it will bring you to a screen. Eventually, you will come to a screen
with the option to (1) setup Windows or (2) Repair Windows Installation
using the Recovery console.

The first option, to setup Windows is the one you want and requires you to
press enter. When asked, press F8 to accept the end user agreement. Setup
will then search for previous versions of Windows. Upon finding your
version, it will ask if you wish to Repair your current installation or
install fresh. Press R, that will run a repair installation. From there
on, follow the screens.

If you only have a recovery CD, your options are quite limited. You can
either purchase a retail version of XP will allow you to perform the above
among other tools and options it has or you can run your system recovery
routine with the Recovery CD which will likely wipe your drive, deleting all
files but will restore your setup to factory fresh condition.

Michael;

Thanks for your quick response. I did try to boot from my cd drive, but to
no avail. It look like it was reading it, screen stop on the "boot from
CD" line, the green light flasing on the drive. But after it stop flashing
it went right back to the :safe mode, safe mode with network, last good
configuration, etc. I tried all the options and no matter which one, the
system froze at the Windows XP logo screen. Any others suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.

When it says boot from the CD, you have 10 seconds to hit any key or it
won't boot from the CD and continue booting from the hard drive. You have
to hit a key, any key, when you see that.

Michael;

I finally got it to boot from the cd, but I encounter another problem.
After it said it was going to check my hardware configuration, I got the
following message "inf file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status
32768. Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit."

My next step was to create the windows xp boot disk and see if that would
get me by this and see if I can switch to the XP cd.

Would you have agree or would you have another suggestion. Thanks again.

The boot floppies are only for the purpose of booting the system to begin
setup on computers that cannot boot from the CD-ROM drive. Once booted, you
will still need to run setup from the CD. That said, it might work, it's
certainly worth a shot.

However, this error, as near as I can find, is often indicative of some sort
of hardware problem, either a problem with the CD-ROM drive or something
else so you may have to have your system checked out by a technician if this
doesn't work.
