Win XP stops at logo screen

Need anyone help with problem I am having with my pc. I got a pc
with
Windows XP Pro edition installed on it. And I had this pc for almost
2
years without a problem.

Today I powered my computer on and it goes thru the system check
screen
and then when it gets to the Windows XP screen with the moving scroll
bar, its
stops. Then I have to turn it off and back on, and it goes thru the
same
process, and gives me 5 options: safe mode, safe with networking,
safe mode with command prompt and last good configuration or normal
startup.
Well, no matter what option i take, it continues like it going to
startup,
choose one of the options, which I do, and it acts like it going
to start up, but again it stops at the same place, Windows XP with
the
scroll bar. No matter what I choose, it doesn't get pass that
window. Can
anybody offer any suggestion on what I might do to correct this
problem.
Thanks in advance

It could be hardware or software. There isn't any way to tell without
looking at the machine. I'd do some general hardware diagnosis on the
power supply and hard drive and then, if the hardware is good, maybe try
a Repair Install.

Here are some general hardware troubleshooting steps:

See XP logo problem above. I found a work around to keep from going back to
previous restore points. MS tech support said they never heard of this
before! This is the 3rd problem posted so far. Hope it helps.
