I need help fixing Windows XP home so that I can once again login without a
password to my home default user profile.
Here's what happened. I was doing some driver updates and after a reboot
the windows login screen appears wanting a password, I have no passwords set
so I clicked on ok to move on into my default profile. I researched on how
to get rid of this login screen that was not there before.
A website said use the command control userpasswords2 at the run prompt.
Here's a mistake I made. I deleted my default user Adminstrator account
which was called xyz. I then could not logon at all. I went to safe mode
and added another Admin account. The old profile is still there which is
called xyz at C:\Documents and Settings.
I now cannot use Control Panel -> User Accounts. When I click on User
Accounts I get the following error: "Internet Explorer Script Error: An
error has occurred in teh script on this page" No Line, Char, Error, Code,
or URL is displayed. Also I cannot get this window to disapper by clicking
yes, no or X. So I can no longer manage the user accounts through windows.
Please note this also happens in safe mode as well.
If I try to add xyz back by typing in the account at the login page, Windows
creates a new account which under C:\Documents and Settings is called
xyz.XYZ. My original profile xyz is still in that directory.
How can I get windows XP home to again 1. Use my default profile user
settings xyz and 2. get rid of the password screen when windows boots so that
I can just click on the profile icon to open windows once again? I just want
to get back to where I was before. So I need to get the new problem I
created fixed and then get rid of the login screen problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
