windows xp home sp2

on my new athlon 64 system with xp home sp2 installed and after the windows
updates installed the following problem occures: If i click to shutdown the
computer the pc restarts imediatly, thus without saving settings and so on.Is
this a known problem and does anyone know a solution?
 
Disable automatic restart on system failure (on SP2): Press F8 on restart,
and see the menu item to disable auto restart. Restart, and when the STOP
message appears, record information needed for further troubleshooting.
