Windows will not shut down

I have Windows XP home with sp2. If I select restart or shutdown from the
shutdown menu it locks up my computer. The only way I can shut down is to
hold the power button in for 5 seconds or turn off the power.

I have an asus k8v mb with an amd athlon 64 3200+ processor and 1.5 GB
ram.


Any ideas?
