windows xp home keeps rebooting won't start in safe mode

I recently EZ GIG II to move data from the 40 gig hd TO A 120 GIG hd and all
was well but I left the 40 in and the swap file was on the 40. I set the
swap file to 0 and rebooted. Then I set the swap file on the 120 to
recomended size and rebooted. I then went to disk mgmt and changed "C" (the
40 gig) to "O" and went to reboot. Now the computer goes to the sign on and
I sign on and the it logs me off. If I try to go to the safe mode same thing
happens.

What do I need to do now?

Your help is greatly appriciated!

Some suggestions.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. Just to see if you can get a STOP code.

When the pc is booting up (after the BIOS has done its POST test and
before Windows starts loading),
Tap F8 Function key to get bootup options. Tap & keep repeat tapping F8 !

You will actually see "Disable automatic restart on system failure" as an option .
Select that and give it a try. This option is available if you have XP service pack 2.

Once restart on failure is disabled, you may get a STOP error with
text --- at the next Windows startup.
Write it all down, and then start searching for the final solution.
And post back here with the STOP code & text.

Once restart on failure is disabled, you may get a STOP error with text --- at the next Windows startup.
Write it all down, and then start searching for the final solution.

See Aumha.org page on STOP MESSAGES
http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm

Best of luck. Do post back here with details.

Maurice,
I have tried all ofthat and no error code. I have followed Charlie Whites
scenero of repai install - including copying from the repair director to the
system32 dir. When I did that the reboot gave Windows could not start
because:file missing or corrupt: \windows\sytrem32\config\system You can
attempt to repairby starting windows setup using orig setup cd-rom. select R
at first screen Repair Console. I have followed Charlies steps of rebuild
Boot.Ini.

No luck here

If I boot log on safe startup it gets to system.alt and then it givesthe
above error

I have the upgrade XP home disc (I have other XP pro orig discs available)

Should I get a new HD and do an install and then copy data over?
