windows xp does not load driver for h/p scanjet 3200c

I have a dell 2350 desktop that I have tried to add a
scanner. I downloaded the driver from h/p. I found that
the only way the scanner is recognized is if you do not
hook up cables until you reboot. Then loading the driver
I get errors saying that it cannot finish loading the
driver. I have uninstalled the driver because the driver
in device manager has yellow conflict symbol and is not
loaded. What is my course of action. I have spent many
hours downloading and uninstalling this driver. Any
advice will be greatly appreciated.

OK, this device didn't ship inbox, so you don't have to worry about any
conflicts there.

But some scanner manufacturers require that you install the software before
you plug in the device (if you had the device plugged in when you installed
the software - drivers - you could be in for a mess).

I'd recommend you uninstalled any of the HP 3200 software and driver, and
unplug the device from your computer. Reboot. Verify it's all gone (devman,
etc.). Then unless HP, their web site or the manual for the device
specifically tell you how to install the device correctly, I recommend you
plug in the HP scanner. When the Hardware Wizard asks you to find the
driver - point it to the dir where you've unzipped the HP file you
downloaded (It'll be looking for an INF file). If it says it can't find the
correct files to install this way, cancel the Hardware Wizard and run the HP
software Setup program.

good luck!
