Windows XP and HP Photosmart 7660 Printer

I recently purchased the HP Photosmart 7660 printer which
is compatible (according to the information) with Windows
XP.

I load the printer accoridng to directions and when I plug
the printer into the USB, it comes back that it can't find
the device. However, the computer recognizes the device...

Any help - I've been bounced back and forth between HP
Support and Gateway....

HELP!!!
