Printer Question

I had an HP Photosmart 7600 series (7660, I think) which I pass on to my
daughter and replaced it with an HP Deskjet 6980. Both of them are
excellent and the latter a little faster.

Both print photos extremely well. Except for the Vivera inks in Deskjet,
what are the differences between these two printers resulting in HP
referring to them with two separate names (Deskjet and Photosmart)?

Simply stated, what is the difference between a Deskjet and Photosmart
printer?

The DeskJet series printers are typically single function units. The
Photosmart printers typically have additional photo-centric features, which
may include camera card slots, additional front USB port for direct connect
of pictbridge cameras, and possibly an LCD screen. Some Photosmart models
have additional features built in such as the ability to zoom, crop and
remove red-eye without needing a computer. The Photosmart models may also
have additional paper trays for 4x6" photo media, where the DeskJet has an
optional 250 page input paper tray. More recently, the Photo smart line has
been expanded to include multi-function units with Print, Scan, Copy and Fax
in some units.

Ah, that answers the question nicely. Recognizing that everyone does things
differently, I copy all my photos on my hard drive and print from there
after any touchups using "HP Photo and Imaging" that came with the 7600
printer.
