Cartridge filling ink

Dave C.

I have a HP Photosmart 7660 which uses 56 and 57 cartridges. I am looking
to buy an HP6940 printer which uses 96 and 97 cartridges.

I have been filling the 56 and 57 carts successfully. The spec on the 6940
refers to Vivera ink.

Is this the same ink that I have been using for the 56 and 57 carts?

My supplier web site shows the same black and same tri-colors for these
carts. I have not yet check with my supplier on this yet.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

To bad your relabeler will not tell you what you are buying or properly
disclose and label what it is on their website. But do not despair
since all of the relabelers are the same.

I have a similar situation. One printer uses 56, 57, other uses
94,95/97.
The coloured ink is diferent between 57 - 95/97
Black ink has different refill kits from some suppliers, but the same
ink can be used by both black carts.

The only problem you will have is the chip in 96/97 carts.

You cannot reset the ink level by rotating 3 carts.
If you refill the carts you have to alter the printer to ignore the
ink level.
I had problems with both carts. The ink actually ran out before the
ink level showed empty. This caused premature failure of the carts.
I usually start refilling when level shows half full but left it too
long on 94/95 carts.

The ink used is the same for 92,94,96 and 93,95,97. Just different
cart capacity

I hope this helps

The ink that HP puts in the 56/57 is very different than that in the 96/97
cartrdiges.

You get what you pay for.... the color maps are different between the 57
and 97 inks, if you use the same ink for both at least one of them will be
"wrong".

If you use genuine HP ink you would not have had these problems.

Yes, very helpful. The reason for the interest in theHP6940 is that in this
model (as well as some others) have the print head in the cartridge as
opposed to other HP's with the heads permanent in the printer. I feel more
comfortable with the head in the cartridges.

Hope HP does not eliminate the cartridge-in-the-head models. I guess the
ones permanently in the printer might want to compete with Epson or others.

Also, thanks for the ink filling information.
