HP1050 combi printer/scanner + HP301 inks

Just wondered if anyone here has this printer (about three years old)
and has refilled the 301 type cartridges? Kits for refill are available
but the problem of resetting the ink levels seems to be a real one
according to web sources, I was wondering if the old trick of three
different carts in succession works to reset this HP1050 printer to be
able to effectively see the refilled one as a new cartridge? C+
