Good monochrome < $100 printer?

K

KenK

I have an HP Deskjet 1000. Many problems with it and a warranty
replacement. Finally gave up trying to use it.

Canon Pixma MG3122. Keeps giving out-of-paper when there's plenty. Running
built-in print roller maintenance seems to fix it but it's so frequent that
it's a big PITA. Don't know how long the roller maintenace will fix the
error.

Any suggestions for a _reliable_ less-than $100 monochrome printer if there
is such a thing? A bit more expensive? I use the printer infrequently - a
letter now and then or print out something I researched on the net. I have
an old LJ 3. needs pickup roller I bought installed. Worth paying to get it
done instead of a new printer maybe - it was extremely reliable for many
years?

Suggestions?

TIA.

You might go the laser route as it is cheaper for a mononchrome use.

Haven't used any Samsung printers but look at the Staples web page
for the laser printers & see the 3 laser printers withe wired &
wireless connections; 2 of the 3 has auto duplexing & do believe
one or 2 of the printers are at the "eol"/no longer made.

All the Samsung laser printers are at $99.98 or $99.99 at the sale
prices posted.

Samsung SL-M2820DW @ $99.99 wired/wifi auto-duplex (new model?)
Samsung ML-2955DW @ $99.98 wired/wifi auto-duplex (may be discontinued)
Samsung ML-2165DW @ $99.99 wired/wifi (may not be auto-duplex)

Prices of laser printers have dropped dramatically for what one gets
for doing mono only.

Never ever use a Inkjet for Monochrome text printing, bad prints and
very costly to run, plus print are not water proof.

The Brother HL-2240D my latest Laser is very good, I managed to get
it for NZ $58nz.

Stick with a firm that knows about printers, Not Samsung and they don't
get good reviews.

I have used HP's in the past and a Brother HL-2040 that I picked up
from a Rubbish Tip recycle shop for $2nz, worked great but just upgraded
to the HL-2240D as I wanted full duplex.

But I am a Technician (Retired) and have serviced printers.

I may opt for the Brother HL-2280DW tomorrow as I have the itch. The
printer is an all-in-one laser, auto-duplex & usb/wired/wifi so can
be used on a network. Pricing is very attractive as in $99.99 at
several places, Amazon, Newegg & Staples (a "special" buy) & at
Best Buy.

Looks to be a "soon to be discontinued" model as a newer version may
be starting to ship. The toner is "expensive" depending where you buy
it but Monoprice may carry it like it did for my HL-5250DN I got back
in 2005. The HL-5250DN is still running good with lots of life in
the hi-yield toner yet but both the printer & the Canon 8400F scanner
takes up much space; don't use the scanner much anymore & win7 looks
to be the last year for driver support while the Mac OSX ended with
10.6.x.

$99.99 is a decent price for my "occasional" printer use these days.
