Windows XP 64-Bit Setup Problems

M

Mark Hartt-Palmer

I have an AMD Athlon 64 on an Asus K8v Deluxe board. I
have a Maxtor 120GB SATA drive on the primary SATA
controler (Promise 378). When trying to setup WinXP 64-
bit for extended systems, I receive the following error
when trying to specify the SATA device: "The file [file
name] is corrupted. Windows XP Pro installs fine though.

Any ideas?

Microsoft has no released a version of Windows XP 64Bit to be run on the
AMD. You are trying to install a version compiled for the Intel chips. You
will have to wait until next year for Microsoft to release Windows XP 64Bit
for the AMD.

This is not the case, I'm afraid. On the MSDN Universal
Downloads, there is a version called "Windows XP 64-Bit
Edition For 64-bit Extended Systems," designed for the
AMD Opteron and Athlon64 processors.

Then you have access to the beta. Microsoft doesnt provide support it for
