Windows won't boot - cannot stop auto re-start to read error message

Trying to help a friend with laptop which won't boot properly.

Whether selecting Start Windows Normally, Safe Mode or Last known
good configuration, system attempts to start Windows, a BSOD error
message flashes up, too quickly to read and immediately system
re-boots.

How can I stop auto re-boot to read the error message?

TIA

Press F8 when the computer boots and change the Automatically Restart on
System Failure option, instead of rebooting the computer should halt on
the blue screen and you may be able to obtain useful information from
the bugcheck error message.

Please post a copy of the Stop Error Report.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select
option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

If you are using a wireless keyboard and the F8 key does not work
substitute a wired keyboard and mouse for this exercise only.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Gerry. It was the F8 "Disable automatic restart on system
failure" option that I was looking for.

if one can not get to select your specified option,
then boot with windows CD to repair to get to repair console mode and use
bootcfg to set the option required, reboot
